10 Good Reasons why PJ taste should be your caterer of choice in 2025

2024 saw PJ taste complete its 18th year supplying the very best delivered buffets, dinners and catered events in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and Derbyshire. With an ethos of continuous improvement what have we got cooking for 2025? Here’s a run down of 10 highlights which will add value to the catering, hospitality and event management you buy from us.

PJ taste catered for the prestigious Unlimited Business Awards in December 2024. The gala dinner for 330 people feature local organic food as well as key ingredients from our own regenerative growing.

Here are the 10 factors which make our catering service standout from the competition.

  1. One Team. As an Employee Owned Business the whole team is committed to ensuring our clients and guests receive high quality food and exceptional service. We are highly responsive which means we can provide flexibility for late orders, create bespoke menus for those with particular dietary requirements and cater for a range of needs from breakfasts to gala dinners.
We have a dedicated team of skilled catering professionals and recently strengthened this once more with the appointment of Sophie as General Manager.

2. Sustainability. Minimising our impact on the environment has been a core value of the business since 2006. We continually develop and innovate to improve in this area - please see our page describing these efforts here.

3. Our Customers Trust Us. We are proud to receive excellent feedback from guests, customers and clients across a range of platforms. These include Google My Business, (4.9 out of 5 - 88 reviews) Tripadvisor,(5 out of 5) and our own testimonials receive via email and letter, and on our social media accounts.

4. Convenience. During 2024 we introduced an online ordering system which makes buying from us very simple. Guests have their own account and can order 24/7 with the ability to be able to see all menu items in real time. Adjustments to orders to add further meals or request dietaries specials are easy to do. Financially too there are benefits as the costs are immediately apparent and you can even pay online.

5. We listen to you. Asking constructive, open questions has helped us make improvements to our food and service based on your suggestions. Our unobtrusive feedback is simple but effective and we described it in a recent blog.

6. Health and Hygiene. The well-being of our guests is our number one priority. Our food hygiene policy and controls are robust and our combined with regular up-date food hygiene training. The entire team are extremely careful to prepare food safely and label all dishes with any allergens present. As well as environmental inspections by Sheffield City Council we have an annual inspection from an independent hygiene expert. We have the top score for food hygiene rated as very good.

7. Nutrition. As well as providing creative, delicious food we are very conscious that, “you are what you eat”. Influenced by current research by organisations such as Zoe we believe that a varied diet of high quality, unprocessed food with limited added sugar provides the most nutritious and sustainable diet.
All our flour is sourced from WIldfarmed - their regenerative approach to growing cereals and pulses results in fantastic tasting flour which is more nutritious and much kinder to the soils than conventional agriculture which tends to use pesticides and artificial nitrogen additions.

Over the last year we have worked with Professor Viren Ranawana MSc PhD FHEA RNutr, Senior Lecturer, Human Nutrition at the University of Sheffield on a number of projects to reduce sugar in recipes.

We select fairtrade, rainforest alliance and regenerative/organic supplies as much as possible – all coffee/tea conforms to these standards.  Milk is from local supplier Our Cow Molly and meat is from high welfare farming in the UK.

8 Innovation. Despite our management team having an average of 35 years hospitality experience each we still strive to make the next meal better than the one before! We continually add products to the menu ranges. Recently our Premium Board Room lunch as given a luxury feel to the corporate menus although at the other end of the price scale we have reduced the price of our lunch bags. Quality coffee is very important to us and we source from Forge Coffee Roasters virtually a neighbour of ours in Attercliffe. As they say, “Our coffee is hand crafted in Sheffield, England’s “City of Steel”, which men of foresight, diligence and enterprise have made famous.”

9. Local Growing. We use produce harvested from our own forest garden. This includes herbs, salads and decorative flowers for up to 10 months of the year, alongside soft fruit, apples, pears and quinces. The plot is managed regeneratively with absolutely no artificial additives and over the last eight years the soil quality has been significantly improved.

10. Creativity. Another of our key core values is creating a culture of creativity. This comes from all departments whether its working with suppliers to use seasonal produce (and hence harvest at times of best value) or creating unique menus and events. An example of a recent menu is the gala dinner we produced for the Unlimited Business Awards. We share this learning with our guests so that they can enjoy new tastes and experiences.
