Sheffield Craft City

Sheffield Craft City is up and running following our launch event on Thursday at PJ taste.

guests at the preview

Designed to be a rolling showcase of arts and crafts from Sheffield based contributors the founding people are:

  • James Green, linocut and etching print specialist
  • Lianne Mellor, tea ware with a contemporary feel
  • Jessica Flinn, maker of handmade modern jewellery using traditional metalwork techniques
  • PJ taste, providing support, sustenance and creativity with locally sourced food.

The Thursday evening launch event gave visitors the chance to talk to the artists and enjoy a seasonally inspired drink and nibble from PJ taste.  The nettle spritzer went down extremely well, and the foods including PJ taste cured beef, an in-house dry cured bacon, pickled ransom buds and a mini fairy cake with dandelion marmalade.  This was served with a shot of Mead that we have brewed from Sheffield Honey served in the original tapa fashion as a lid to the glass.

See the full menu here.  Our developing Sheffield Bun also featured and we are steadily perfecting the sweet dough bun, with “Steel City Rhubarb” and Birch Sap Syrup icing.  Experience this for yourself whilst the exhibition runs for the next few weeks.

One of the guests, the foodie Queen Miss Cindy has put some pictures from the preview nighton her blog.

We are looking to hold a further event at Woodlane Countryside Centre on the 24th September.  This will be themed around a quintessential English garden party with many more contributors holding workshops and demonstrations, as well as offering work for sale.  Seehttp://www.facebook.com/sheffcraftcity for more information or to suggest artists who may be interested.

The exhibition runs for the next 4-6 weeks at PJ taste – 249 Glossop Road, Sheffield.  Free to call in between 8 and 4pm Monday to Friday and 11am to 4pm Saturdays, there is work available to purchase from the artists.
